The boys took first by 42 points to win the New Castle County Championship on Saturday! The team combined for 73 points to take the win! The Spartans placed 6 on All-County (Top 25) and 7 in the top 27 to take their first team title since 2002! Alec Jurgaitis, Abner Murillo, Evan Paskevicius, Connor Wrinn, Landon Baker, and Nate Plouffe all earned ALL-COUNTY honors, with Tanner Ehemann finishing 27th. Tanner is the first #7 runner in school history to break 17 minutes!
The girls finished 8th overall, tying them with Newark Charter in total points. The girls were led by Sadie Trumbull's 23rd-place finish, good for ALL COUNTY!! Natalie Murillo and Tessa Palm finished 27th and 41st to help lead the team!
The boys JV had their best meet of the season, finishing 4th overall and just 6 points away from 2nd! Ryan Brooks had a breakthrough race, finishing 3rd overall in 17:36! Taylor Cook and Grant Thompson finished in the top-20 to medal for the team in the top-20! The girls' JV finished 8th overall, with Ariana Flickinger leading the team!

The Saint Mark's Spartans brought up the Joe O'Neill Invite boys' team title for the first time in school history. Since 2008, the boys have been racing the Joe O'Neill Invite in honor of our late XC Coach. This fall they brought home the hardware!! The team was led by Evan Paskevicius's 10th place finish, which tied his PR at 16:15. Seniors Alec Jurgaitis, Connor Wrinn, and Abner Murillo finished 18th, 20th, and 22nd, respectively to lead the team to a 95-point score. Juniors Nate Plouffe, Landon Baker, and Tanner Ehemann came in just 15 seconds apart to round out our top 7 runners!
The girls finished 9th overall, with Natalie Murillo again leading the charge in 24th overall at 20:02. Sadie Trumbull finished in 20:20 to come in 2nd for the team.
The JV boys and girls both came in 6th overall.

Season-Best Times through Joe O'Neill
Cary, NC. The boys varsity team earned a spot on the line in the Race of Champions at the Great American XC Festival and placed 21st out of 40 teams in the Nationally competitive race. The top 5 averaged 16:28 on the day, good for #2 all time! Alec Jurgaitis led the team, finishing 47th overall and establishing a new Wake Med team course record in 15:41. Abner Murillo ran the 2nd fastest time in school history at 16:15. Connor Wrinn also ran the fifth fastest time in school history with a 16:21 on the hilly course. Evan Paskevicius (16:47) and Landon Baker (17:13) rounded out the top five.
The girls varsity team placed 24th out of 52 teams in the Blue race at the Great American Cross Country Festival. The top 5 averaged 21:00 on the hilly course. Natalie Murillo and Sadie Trumbull ran the 5th and 7th fastest times in school history on the course, with Tessa, Olivia, and Mari rounding out the top-5 for the Spartans.
Both boys and girls JV teams finished 35th overall in this highly competitive meet.
Overall, the boys and girls combined to sets 21 personal bests on the day!
The Saint Mark's boys continue their historic season with a big win at the Six Flags Invite in the Varsity C Race. The boys combined to average 16:30 for the top-5 runners, which is #2 in school history. Abner Murillo led the way by setting a new school record on the course, being the first Spartan to ever dip under 16 minutes. His 15:57 is #6 in school history for a 5K on any course.
Evan Paskevicius broke the junior school record with a time of 16:15 to finish 8th overall! He holds the #3 time in school history. Junior Nate Plouffe had a 1:10 improvement from last year to come in 12th overall in 16:35.
The girls finished 4th overall out of 25 schools in the Varsity C Race. Natalie Murillo, Sadie Trumbull, and Tessa Palm led the way to medal for the team!
The boys JV finished 3rd overall to earn a team trophy, and the JV girls came in 6th!

The Spartan boys and girls both kicked off the 5K season with big wins over Cape Henlopen and Sussex Tech!
The boys defeated Cape 23-34, and also broke a new school record with the win. Alec Jurgaitis, Abner Murillo, Alec Jurgaitis, Evan Paskevicius, Connor Wrinn, and Nathan Plouffe averaged 16:20 to shatter the 5-runner record set last year at 16:35. Alec's 15:38 is #2 in school history and just 1 second off the school record. Abner's 16:14 is a new lifetime PR and is #10 in school history!
The girls win over Cape was capped off by Natalie Murillo's first place overall victory in 20:00! She was followed up by Sadie Trumbull (3rd) Tessa Palm (4th) Ally Kushkieva (9th) and Olivia Hardy (10th)!
Calling all alumni, coaches, friends, family, teachers, administrators, and fans! This year, The Community Race presented by V.O2 will be scored, and the top team will win a trophy! For scoring, teams must have at least 4 runners finish the race, with at least 1 male and 1 female. Medals will also be awarded to the top 25 finishers in the race. Coaches can race for free. $15 entry fee for all other registrants. Day of registration for the community will be located at packet pickup and will close at 5:00pm.

As a reminder, the registration deadline for Spartan Moonlight Showcase 2025 is approaching. All athlete entries must be submitted before Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM (EDT). Invoices can be paid directly on athletic.net or via check and brought to the packet pickup tent on race day.

Senior Abner Murillo led the Spartans by finishing 11th overall and setting a new senior record on Saturday at the Unionville 2-Mile Bash. Murillo covered the 2-mile course in 10:09 to break the existing senior record by 20 seconds. The current varsity boys now earn the top-4 spots all time and 7 of the top 13 times in school history! Abner, Evan,Nate, and Landon all medaled for the Spartans!
For the girls, Natalie Murillo and Tessa Palm lead the way with top finishes in their respective races. Natalie ran 12:56 to be the 5th fastest girl in school history on the course! Tessa finished 18th overall in her race to medal in the senior race! The breakout of the day was Olivia Hardy's 38th place finish in 13:41!
The team has the weekend off before returning next Tuesday to Sand Hill to take on Cape Henlopen High School!

The boys' team repeated on Saturday as Division II State Champions with 108 points! The girls finished 2nd overall for the 3rd straight year with 135.5 points! Congrats to both teams.
The senior class has combined to earn 4 State Championships and 3 Runner Up trophies in the last 4 years!

Congratulations to Eli Burke for running 21.98 at AAU Nationals on Saturday and breaking his own 200M indoor school record! He finished 2nd overall in the event down in Virginia Beach.

Saint Mark's girls finished 3rd overall and the boys came in 7th at the DIAA State Meet.
The Spartans stole the show at the state meet with two state relay records! The Boys' 4x800M and the girls 4x200M cracked state records and are nationally ranked athletes! The team of Connor Wrinn, Alec Jurgaitis, Patrick Hogate ran 7:56.01 to break the record by over 2 seconds! They are also ranked #16 in the nation! Alexis Donovan, Kiara Davis, Arianna Donovan, and Reagan Garibaldi broke their own state record in running 1:42.66! They are ranked #
Kiara Davis is also state champion and ALL STATE in the long jump, the first win in that event in state history! Eli Burke broke the school record in the 200M in finishing 4th in 22.16. The boys 4x400M finished 3rd overall in 3:28.10 to break the existing school record! Brian Yeager also finished 3rd overall in the 400M in a new PR of 49.88.
Freshman Sophia Montee also took home a 3rd place medal in the triple jump!
The boys finished 5th overall at the New Castle County Champs. They were led by Evan Paskevicius and Connor Wrinn who both earned All County! The girls were led by a trio of Sienna Trumbull (29th), Tessa Palm (30th) and Natalie Murillo (33rd).
The boys' JV took 2nd overall, placing 5 runners in the top 15! The girls rose to 5th overall in the JV race!
The Saint Mark's XC Team made history on Saturday at the Six Flags Wild Safari Invitational. The boys became the fastest team in school history, eclipsing a record that stood since 2007! The 5-runner varsity average of 16:35 was shattered by over 12 seconds. The team also won the entire merged field race, which brought together over 140 schools!
Alec Jurgaitis (16:17) Brian Yeager (16:37) Connor Wrinn (16:37) Abner Murillo (16:41) Evan Paskevicious (16:44) Patrick Hogate (17:11) and Michael Witkowski (18:10) took first overall in the C Race and became the fastest team in the school's 55-year history. They also ran the 3rd, 5th,6th,7th, and 8th fastest times on the course in school history. Alec Jurgaitis broke the junior record, with Evan Paskevicious breaking the sophomore record along the way.
The boys' JV also took first overall and won the merged JV score as well. Sophomores Nate Plouffe (17:40) and Tanner Ehemann (17:41) took 2nd and 3rd overall to pace the team to victory!

Sadie Trumbull (20:19) Tessa Palm (20:29) and Natalie Murillo (20:30) ran the 8th, 10, and 11th fastest times in school history on the course on Saturday. Mary Cantoran ran a 2-minute PR to finish in 22:20, with Ashley Geisewite, Katelyn Rybaltowski, and Paige Bienkowski rounding out our top 7. The JV team placed 4 girls in the top-20, with Ally Kushkieva finishing 2nd overall!
Girls varsity took 9th overall, with the JV girls taking home the C team Championship!
The first ever Spartan Moonlight Showcase kicked off on Saturday night with 13 races in 4 hours. The teams brought home 3rd in both races, and 1st in both JV races as well!
Results.-
The Spartans headed to Sussex County to take on Cape Henlopen, Milford, Sussex Academy, Sussex Tech, and Wilmington Christian at the beautiful Sand Hill Fields course.
The boys came away with a win and a near school record, as the top boys averaged 16:51 over 5K for the first five runners. That is just 4 seconds off the existing record of 16:47 set in 2008. They were led by Abner Murillo's 16:32 finish. The 1-5 split was under 30 seconds!
The girls finished 2nd overall. The Spartans were led by junior captain Tessa Palm who ran 20:26 for a 90 second personal best by 1:32! Freshmen Natalie Murillo (20:44) and Sadie Trumbull (21:18) finished 3rd and 7th, respectively.

Our 13th annual SMXC Summer Kickoff party will take place this Monday, June 17th, 6:00PM at Papermill Park. We will go for a short run, play games, eat food, and hear from our guest speaker.
the guest speaker for 2024 is Connor Nisbet. Connor was the state and county champion in 2016, 2016, and 2017 with Wilmington Friends. He holds the state record for 5000M with a 15:00 his senior year. He also ran 14:44 indoor his senior year. Connor just recently graduated from Princeton University.

Congratulations to our boys track and field team for winning the DIAA State Championship on Saturday! Congratulations also to our girls for finishing runners up at states. The boys and girls combined to score 245 points over the weekend!
The Spartans had multiple state champions at the meet. The boys' 4x800 team finished 1st overall, set a new school record, broke the state meet record at 7:51, and ran the 89th fastest time in the nation! The girls' 4x200M finished 1st overall as well, just missing their school record, but ran a US nationally ranked time of 1:43.15.
Reagan Garibaldi broke the 200M outdoor record by 1/100th of a second in running 24.95! The record stood since 1993. Alexis Donovan won the 100M dash in 12.30, a new PR! Ava Malgiero took first in the triple jump with a mark of 34-5.5, and finally Ellie Brown concluded her career by winning the vault on Friday, clearing 8-6 for the win!
The team also had 8 2nd place finishes on the day!
The boys finished out the year as the #1 ranked team in all of Delaware after concluding an undefeated season!

The boys track and field team took 1st out of over 40 schools at the 81st New Castle County Championship! The girls showed their strength as they claimed 3rd overall, their 4th straight top-3 finish!! The teams combined for 17 athletes on ALL COUNTY (top 3 in each event).
The teams also combined to win 5 events and set 2 new school records over the weekend.

Girls School Records
The Saint Mark's boys, led by Michael Burgos's new school record, defeated Salesianum on Tuesday in a close-fought Catholic Championships. The girls were led by 4x200M school record holders Arianna Donovan, Alexis, Donovan, Angel Rizzo, and Reagan Garibaldi!
The team had an epic day on Tuesday, qualifying 27 boys and 17 girls for the DIAA state meet on the same day. The Spartans had impressive double wins from Chad Dohl, Brian Yeager, and Arianna Donovan as both boys and girls cruised to 5-0 on the season.
Records Fall at the 2024 N5CTA Twilight Invitational
Saint Mark's broke 3 school records on Monday night at the 2024 Twilight Invitaitonal at Saint Mark's. Chad Dohl ran 10.97 to become the fastest runner in school history, breaking the record of 10.99 set by Scott Veri and Zion Glover. Michael Burgos pole vaulted 10-6 to tie the existing record set by Patrick Palm. Finally, the Distance Medley Relay team of Alec Jurgaitis, Sean Kemske, Connor Gebhardt, and Brian Yeager ran 10:46.07 to break the old record by 12 seconds. That record has stood since 1987!
The boys took 1st overall in 9 events on the evening!
The girls were led by big wins by Arianna Donovan (100h and 300H) and Hailey Isabell (1st in discus and 2nd in shot). They also took 1st overall in the distance medley relay!
The Spartans are 2-0 after wins on Wednesday at Newark Charter and Archmere. Logan Klein led the way with three wins. He took first in the shot put, discus, and 4x200M Relay.

Brian Yeager, Connor Gebhardt, Brandon Smith, and Alec Jurgaitis ran 8:00.84 to finish first in their race and 15th overall. They ran the #2 time in STATE HISTORY. They shattered our school record this season by 21 seconds.
