***Spartans Break 17-Year Old School Record***
Boys Win the Six Flags MERGED Invite! Girls finish 9th!
BOTH JV TEAMS WIN!!
The Saint Mark's XC Team made history on Saturday at the Six Flags Wild Safari Invitational. The boys became the fastest team in school history, eclipsing a record that stood since 2007! The 5-runner varsity average of 16:35 was shattered by over 12 seconds. The team also won the entire merged field race, which brought together over 140 schools!
Alec Jurgaitis (16:17) Brian Yeager (16:37) Connor Wrinn (16:37) Abner Murillo (16:41) Evan Paskevicious (16:44) Patrick Hogate (17:11) and Michael Witkowski (18:10) took first overall in the C Race and became the fastest team in the school's 55-year history. They also ran the 3rd, 5th,6th,7th, and 8th fastest times on the course in school history. Alec Jurgaitis broke the junior record, with Evan Paskevicious breaking the sophomore record along the way.
The boys' JV also took first overall and won the merged JV score as well. Sophomores Nate Plouffe (17:40) and Tanner Ehemann (17:41) took 2nd and 3rd overall to pace the team to victory!
The girls finished 9th overall in the varsity race and WON the JV C Race!
Sadie Trumbull (20:19) Tessa Palm (20:29) and Natalie Murillo (20:30) ran the 8th, 10, and 11th fastest times in school history on the course on Saturday. Mary Cantoran ran a 2-minute PR to finish in 22:20, with Ashley Geisewite, Katelyn Rybaltowski, and Paige Bienkowski rounding out our top 7. The JV team placed 4 girls in the top-20, with Ally Kushkieva finishing 2nd overall!
Girls varsity took 9th overall, with the JV girls taking home the C team Championship!
The first ever Spartan Moonlight Showcase kicked off on Saturday night with 13 races in 4 hours. The teams brought home 3rd in both races, and 1st in both JV races as well!

Spartans Shine in Sussex County
The Spartans headed to Sussex County to take on Cape Henlopen, Milford, Sussex Academy, Sussex Tech, and Wilmington Christian at the beautiful Sand Hill Fields course.
The boys came away with a win and a near school record, as the top boys averaged 16:51 over 5K for the first five runners. That is just 4 seconds off the existing record of 16:47 set in 2008. They were led by Abner Murillo's 16:32 finish. The 1-5 split was under 30 seconds!
The girls finished 2nd overall. The Spartans were led by junior captain Tessa Palm who ran 20:26 for a 90 second personal best by 1:32! Freshmen Natalie Murillo (20:44) and Sadie Trumbull (21:18) finished 3rd and 7th, respectively.

SMXC KICKOFF PARTY
Our 13th annual SMXC Summer Kickoff party will take place this Monday, June 17th, 6:00PM at Papermill Park. We will go for a short run, play games, eat food, and hear from our guest speaker.
2024 Guest speaker- Connor Nisbet
the guest speaker for 2024 is Connor Nisbet. Connor was the state and county champion in 2016, 2016, and 2017 with Wilmington Friends. He holds the state record for 5000M with a 15:00 his senior year. He also ran 14:44 indoor his senior year. Connor just recently graduated from Princeton University.

BOYS WIN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! GIRLS FINISH RUNNER UP!
Congratulations to our boys track and field team for winning the DIAA State Championship on Saturday! Congratulations also to our girls for finishing runners up at states. The boys and girls combined to score 245 points over the weekend!
The Spartans had multiple state champions at the meet. The boys' 4x800 team finished 1st overall, set a new school record, broke the state meet record at 7:51, and ran the 89th fastest time in the nation! The girls' 4x200M finished 1st overall as well, just missing their school record, but ran a US nationally ranked time of 1:43.15.
Reagan Garibaldi broke the 200M outdoor record by 1/100th of a second in running 24.95! The record stood since 1993. Alexis Donovan won the 100M dash in 12.30, a new PR! Ava Malgiero took first in the triple jump with a mark of 34-5.5, and finally Ellie Brown concluded her career by winning the vault on Friday, clearing 8-6 for the win!
The team also had 8 2nd place finishes on the day!
The boys finished out the year as the #1 ranked team in all of Delaware after concluding an undefeated season!

Boys Claim New Castle County Title! Girls finish top 3 four straight years!
The boys track and field team took 1st out of over 40 schools at the 81st New Castle County Championship! The girls showed their strength as they claimed 3rd overall, their 4th straight top-3 finish!! The teams combined for 17 athletes on ALL COUNTY (top 3 in each event).
The teams also combined to win 5 events and set 2 new school records over the weekend.

Boys win Catholic Conferences. Girls fight for close 2nd
The Saint Mark's boys, led by Michael Burgos's new school record, defeated Salesianum on Tuesday in a close-fought Catholic Championships. The girls were led by 4x200M school record holders Arianna Donovan, Alexis, Donovan, Angel Rizzo, and Reagan Garibaldi!
Spartans combine to qualify 44 athletes for states at the Conrad Dual Meet!
The team had an epic day on Tuesday, qualifying 27 boys and 17 girls for the DIAA state meet on the same day. The Spartans had impressive double wins from Chad Dohl, Brian Yeager, and Arianna Donovan as both boys and girls cruised to 5-0 on the season.
Records Fall at the 2024 N5CTA Twilight Invitational
Saint Mark's broke 3 school records on Monday night at the 2024 Twilight Invitaitonal at Saint Mark's. Chad Dohl ran 10.97 to become the fastest runner in school history, breaking the record of 10.99 set by Scott Veri and Zion Glover. Michael Burgos pole vaulted 10-6 to tie the existing record set by Patrick Palm. Finally, the Distance Medley Relay team of Alec Jurgaitis, Sean Kemske, Connor Gebhardt, and Brian Yeager ran 10:46.07 to break the old record by 12 seconds. That record has stood since 1987!
The boys took 1st overall in 9 events on the evening!
The girls were led by big wins by Arianna Donovan (100h and 300H) and Hailey Isabell (1st in discus and 2nd in shot). They also took 1st overall in the distance medley relay!

Spartans Open Up the Season 2-0
The Spartans are 2-0 after wins on Wednesday at Newark Charter and Archmere. Logan Klein led the way with three wins. He took first in the shot put, discus, and 4x200M Relay.

Nationals
Brian Yeager, Connor Gebhardt, Brandon Smith, and Alec Jurgaitis ran 8:00.84 to finish first in their race and 15th overall. They ran the #2 time in STATE HISTORY. They shattered our school record this season by 21 seconds.
