2010 St. Mark's XC Roster


SENIORS

seniors 2010

The senior class of 2010 will go down as the greatest class in school history. They leave behind a legacy, having won 3 Invitationals and setting numerous school records. They transformed cross country at St. Mark's, and helped create a running culture in the school. Their success was rooted in the ability to work extremely hard while also having a lot of fun. They will be missed.

Jill opened up the 2010 season with a huge PR. She shed over 1 minute, finishing 14th in 20:55 at the Lake Forest Invitational. Recently she shattered her PR by 30 more seconds in running 20:23 at the Joe O'neill Invite, good for #20 all-time at Bellevue. Jill finished 2nd overall in the JV race at the New Castle County Championships, and earned 2nd team All-Catholic Conference.

This past spring Jill had a breakout season as a middle distance runner, qualifying for the state meet in both the 400M and 800M, and competing in the 400M at states.

Grace joined the squad for her senior year, and thus far she has been a bright addition to the team. She ran her season best PR by over 2 minutes at the Joe O'Neill Invite.

In 2010 Emily has finished 1st at the Catholic Conference Championships, 1st at the Briarwood Invitational, 1st at the Six Flags Invitational, 2nd at the State Championships, 2nd at the Lake Forest Invitational, 5th at the Sallies Invite, 6th at Counties, 7th at Manhattan, and 6th at Bellevue. She also established a new school record for 5000m at Bellevue, running 18:27. She also set school records at Manhattan, Killen's, and Brandywine Creek State Park. Emily was recently voted to 1st Team All-State for her performances this fall!!

In 2009 Emily finished 4th place at the Division I state meet at Killen's Pond. En route to her 4th place finish, she also shattered the St. Mark's school record for Killen's Pond. She broke a 29-year-old record held by Carolee Ryan in 1980 (19:36). Emily finished 10th at the very competitive New Castle County Championships and she finished 1st at the Catholic Conferences Championships. She is only the 4th St. Mark's runner to ever win that race, and the first since 2001. She also went on to Footlocker Regionals and finished first overall in the Junior Class Division, finishing in 20:05.

In 2010 Emily finished the track season as one of the premiere middle distance runners in the state, and as the #2 middle distance runner in St. Mark's history, behind only Monica Witterholt. Emily's times of 2:15, 5:04, and 11:22 rank her in the top 5 in the state in all 3 events.


Hardcastle 2010

Roseena ran her career best of 21:29 at the Joe O'Neill Invitational!! She also finished 2nd overall in the JV race at the Six Flags Invitational, with a time of 22:08. She had previously run a personal best at the Lake Forest Invitational, finishing in 23:13.

In 2009 she was plagued with injuries last season, but still ran her best time ever at the Joe O'Neill lnvite. Roseena competed this spring in track and field, running in 2 meets after recovering from injuries. Look for her to have an injury-free season this fall!!

Katie is running her 4th season of cross country for St. Marks. Her training has shown great improvements this fall, and she is ready for major drops in her times. She has been very consistent, and she can be a major help for us next year as well.


Jobst 2010

Hanna suffered some setbacks from injuries for the past 2 seasons, but she came back in her final high school race at counties and ran a solid PR. Her enthusiasm and spirit guided the team in 2010.


King 2010

Izzy ran a monster PR at the Catholic Conference Championships, where she finished 19:49 for 7th overall. That earned her 2nd team All-Catholic Conference for 2010. Izzy also finished 13th at the state meet at Brandywine Creek State park. She finished 25th at the Six Flags Invitational with a time of 20:33.

In 2009 Izzy had a breakout season for St. Mark's. She finished 12th overall (20:45) at the state meet, improving 21 spots from 2008. She also finished 5th overall at the Catholic Conference Championships and 32nd at the New Castle County Championships. She earned 1st team All-Catholic.This season her PR has dropped by over a minute. Izzy earned all-region in Footlocker Easts by finished 23rd in the Junior Class division.

In track and field Izzy was our most improved runner, dropping 12 seconds in the 800M and helping our 4x800 finish 1st at states and meet of champions, and set new school and state meet records.


Lopez profile

Sonia is in her 4th year running for the cross country team. She is a year-round distance runner, and has been the life and the spirit of the program. She has been hampered by ankle issues this fall, but she is due for a huge race and will likely perform well.

Sonia made the transition this spring to Shot and Disucs, and she will be a huge asset for us in those events going forward.

In 2010 Natalie became a solid leader of the team, and often gave very motivation speeches leading up to big races. Natalie battled injuries this summer, but came back and finished within 20 seconds of her PR this fall. Look for fast times in 2011 for Peset.

Natalie finished 43rd at the 2009 Division I State meet, running 22:37.

Natalie qualified for hte state meet in track and field with a mile pr of 5:58.

Beth finished her 4th year at St. Mark's. She finished 8th at the Catholic Conference Championships, running 19:55. That earned her 2nd team All-Catholic Conference for the 4th consecutive year!! She finished 28th at the Six Flags Invitational in 20:39, and finished the Joe O'Neill Invite in 20:03.

In 2009 She finished 18th at the Division I state meet, after suffering a seriou ankle injury which plagued her in the final 3 meets of the season. Beth was the team's MVP in 2008.

On the track in 2010 Beth set a new PR in the 3200M, running 11:51 at the Meet of Champions. She also set new PR's in the 400, 800, and 1600 this past spring.

Rachel was a great addition to the team for 2010. Her leadership and enthusiasm guided the younger runners. She consistently lowered her times each meet, and finished in 22:38 at the Catholic Conference Championships. Look for Rachel to come back in 2011.

Katrina joined us for her senior year after a breakthrough season in spring track. Katrina earned 2nd team All-State and 1st team All-Catholic in just her first cross country season. She finished 6th at states, 13th at Counties, and 3rd in the Catholic Conference. Katrina ran her first varsity race at the Six Flags Invitational, where she finished in 33rd overall in 20:47. Katrina's 19:06 at the Joe O'Neill Invite is the #3 time in St. Mark's history!

In track in 2010 Katrina's 1600 of 5:23 was one of the top times in the state, and qualified her for the fast heat at the state meet, and the meet of champions. We look for Katrina to be a big part of the 2010 season!!


JUNIORS

Juniors 2010

The Junior class returned just 1 runner from 2009, but this group became a force in 2010. They were a very close group, and they were also committed to making SMXC a stronger team. They will all make great leaders in 2011.


Armiger 2010

Kaki earned honorable mention in the Catholic Conference for her impressive 1st season performances. She had her breakthrough race at the Joe O'Neill Invitational, running 20:22 for the #16 time in St. Mark's history. She also finished 13th at Catholic Conferences, running 20:29. She has solid credentials in swimming and in lacrosse, and she's been a bright addition to the team!


Caroll Profile

Lauren helped the JV finish 3rd overall at the Six Flags Invitational, where she finished in 26:05. She ran her best time of the season at the Joe O'Neill Invitational, finishing in 24:30.


Ciolek Profile

Dani is running her first season of XC for St. Mark's. She started the season with a strong 23:13 at the Lake Forest Invitational, but injury setbacks have limited her racing this season. She finished with an impressive 22:25 at the Catholic Conference Championships.

Spencer joined the XC team in 2010 and has shown tremendous improvements in 1 short season. She lowered her time by over 3 1/2 minutes, and ran her season best at the Catholic Conference Championships in 24:40!!


 

E. Trofa 2010

Erica lowered her 5K PR 1:20 this season, reaching 20:41 at the Joe O'Neill Invite for 2nd overall in the JV race. She also ran 20:49 at the Catholic Conference Championships, 21:30 at the County Championships, and 21:29 at the Archmere Dual earlier in October .Erica finished 5th on the team at Briarwood, helping us win the Briarwood Invitational. She was a strong contributor on varsity all season. She comes to us from Chichester High School, where she was their top runner and captain of the team.

In track and field this spring Erica qualified and competed at the state meet in in the 3200M. She also qualified automatically in the 1600M as well.


D. Trofa 2010

Danielle joined XC for the first time this fall, and has been a strong contributor for our JV. Her PR dropped from 24's to 21:01 in 1 month, and she became our #9 runner by the end of the season.

Look for Danielle to be a big part of the team as we move forward!!!

Rachel has been training with the XC team this season, and on the track she is a long sprinter. Watch Rachel's times drop this spring after a strong base of XC training this fall!!

Danielle finished a sensational season of XC, recently running the #9 time in school history (19:45) at the Joe O'Neill Invitational. She finished 12th in at the state meet, and also earned 1st team All-Catholic. She also finished 13th overall at the Six Flags Invitational, running 19:54.

She opened up the season with a huge PR at Lake Forest, finishing 10th in 20:37. She went on to finish 8th at Briarwood in 20:57.

In 2009 Danielle had two HUGE breakout performances at the Division I State meet and the New Castle County Championships, She finished 25th in the state meet, and she finished 41st at Counties. She then went on to Footlocker Easts and earned All-East honors by finishing 17th in the Sophomore Class division.

In the spring Danielle quiclkly lowered all her times from 2009. Her times of 2:33 for 800 and 5:42 for 1600 both qualified her automatically for states and were major breakthroughs.

Danielle will have a tremendous 2010-2011 season!!


SOPHOMORES

Sophomores 2010

Although the Sophomore group is the smallest class on the team, these runners have a lot of heart and enthusiasm. 4 of the 5 girls running are new to the team, but their attitudes proved that they are ready to take a leadership roll in 2011.


 

Brown 2010

Katie is joining us for her 1st season of XC after having a solid freshman track season. Katie hopes to become a full-time distance runner.


 

Chamness profile

Marissa joins the team after moving from Texas in the summer. She's finished a succussful XC season, and ran her 2010 PR at the Joe O'Neill Invite in 22:28!! We look to have Marisa for 2 1/2 more year at St. Mark's, and she will be a big part of the team as we move forward.


 

DiSabatino Profile

Caroline competed for the first time ever this fall in XC. She was a wonderful addition to the team, and her Ninja Turtle backpack was great!!

Rachel regained her form late in the season and ran a big PR at the Catholic Conference Championships. She finished in 21:13 for 7th overall, and helped the JV team set a new school record for fastest 5K average (21:00).

Rachel was the lone freshman on varsity last season, and she returns this fall with experience. Rachel had been on Varsity all season, and had been consistently the team's 4th or 5th runner. She finished 32nd at the state meet, 42nd at the county championships, and 13th overall at the Catholic Conferences Championships. At Catholic conferenes she ran a personal best of 21:27. Rachel continued her season at Footlockers East Regionals and finished 29th in the Freshman Class Division.

She has a great attitude for racing, and has been a fearless competitor. She ran indoor track last winter, and joined the soccer team in the spring.


McKenzie profile

Ashley is a transfer Sophomore from Kennett, and she competed in her first ever season of XC. She was up and down with injuries, but in the end she put up a fast time at the Catholic Conference Championships, setting a new PR of 22:52. Her dedication and commitment to the team will make her a bright addition to our team!
